Book Fair is back! We're hosting multiple Book Fairs this year, with the first one scheduled from October 30 to November 3. Our new school librarian, Natasha Kernek, will lead this event and but we need volunteers who can help! Shifts are an hour each (before and/or after school) and you'll run check-out and assist customers.

All proceeds will go directly towards updating the library's collection.

August Update

The school year upon us and have have plans, starting on Tuesday, August 15!

Hello Sam Hughes CREW! Thanks so much for subscribing to the PTA newsletter and welcome to a new year at Sam Hughes Elementary! We are so happy you are here.

We are a volunteer-run group, led by the Sam Hughes PTA Board and many other parents and teachers who chair various PTA committees and groups. Our PTA funds a huge variety of school activities and academics, including literacy, arts and ecology programs, after school sports and clubs, field trips, teacher stipends, CREW t-shirts for every student, teacher appreciation events and much more. In order to provide this support, we host a handful of fundraisers throughout the year and rely on volunteer and financial support from the amazing parents, families, teachers, staff and community members to make it all happen.

And... we always need more folks to get involved! So, here are a few ideas to get you started this year:

Attend: Join us for dinner! The first PTA meeting of the year is next Tuesday, August 15 at 6pm. A meal for your family is provided! If you're ready to join, bring your family and cash or check to pay your member dues (or pay online in advance!).

Volunteer: Consider what you might like to help out with this year and sign up to volunteer for a couple different committees or events (then, ask another parent to join you!). There are opportunities for every level of commitment - from just an hour or two, to leading a committee, and everything in between. Check out what we need help with.

JoinBecome a PTA member! Having active members each year keeps us in good standing with the AZPTA.

Share: Spread the word! Encourage other parents to sign up for this newsletter and become members. (Note: the newsletter is for anyone interested, and you do not have to be a paying member to subscribe).

Socialize: Meet other school families, chat with PTA members and teachers, and celebrate the new school year at our annual PTA pancake breakfast, Saturday August 26th, 9:00-10:30am, in the cafeteria. If you want to help flip pancakes, please let us know.

Our calendar of events for the year is attached. Check it out and we'll send more information as each event approaches. In the meantime if you have any questions, you can reach out to Samhughespta@gmail.com.

Thank you so much for your support! We look forward to seeing you soon!

Meetings, Committees and more!

Dear Sam Hughes PTA Members,

We hope you are able to make it to our PTA meetings this year to learn more about our school, keep in touch with other parents and participate in our many fun school events and fundraisers. To learn more about our PTA, visit our Sam Hughes PTA website to learn more and see upcoming meetings.

We need volunteers who are willing to participate in or chair some committees next year! This is a great way to get involved with PTA, get to know other families, and help out the school. Your participation on these committees can be big or small. Please read below and consider joining one (or more!) this year:

Yearbook Committee: Sell ad space, take and collect photos to be used in the yearbook, coordinate yearbook sales and distribution.

Greening Group: Coordinate with Ms. Graber and school families to address needs and projects on school grounds. Help keep Sam Hughes a beautiful space.

Spell-a-thon: Help with the Spell-a-thon website, help fundraise and get the word out, create marketing pieces for the event (flyers), and pull and distribute prizes after the event.

Tax Credit Committee: Help our families and extended families figure out how Tax Credit works, get the word out to families and the larger community that they can allocate their tax dollars to Sam Hughes. Market and create an awareness campaign through emails, flyers, banners, canvassing, etc. to spread the word. Seventy-five percent of the money we raised came from the Sam Hughes neighborhood, so working with the neighborhood and neighborhood committees to help is important.

Chuck Wagon Committee: Help plan and implement Sam Hughes' biggest annual festival. Needs range from food to games to our silent auction. We need LOTS of participants to help plan, set up, and run this historic event.

Time commitments for these vary. If you are interested, please send us an email at samhughespta@gmail.com so we can connect with you. We look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,

Your 2023-24 Sam Hughes PTA Board
